Hundreds of students will attend Charles Darwin University (CDU) Orientation this week, with a range of activities to help ease students into university life.

For the first time, Orientation has been held both virtually and on campus to assist the diverse range of students starting study with CDU.

Virtual Orientation began on Monday, while Orientation at Casuarina, Alice Springs and the Darwin Waterfront campuses commenced today (Tuesday), followed by Orientation for international students on Wednesday.

Students on Casuarina campus were welcomed to country before a program of information sessions from the university’s six colleges, tours, and friend-making and networking events.

CDU Student Ambassador Jurse Salandanan said Orientation was the best way for students to start their academic careers on the right foot, have some fun and meet fellow students.

“Orientation is so important, especially for first year students,” Jurse said. “They can become familiar with the campus, meet their lecturers and learn how to access support services.

“CDU is one of the most multicultural and diverse universities in Australia. The hospitality that the new students will experience from staff, lecturers and fellow student ambassadors is unlike most other places.”

Pro Vice-Chancellor Student Engagement and Success Professor Philip Seltsikas said this week’s events were an important way to break the ice for new students.

“We know that commencing university study can be daunting, so Orientation is a fun and supportive way to get to know what university life is all about,” Professor Seltsikas said.

"This week’s events have been designed to cater for the many different students we have starting at CDU, including those from the Northern Territory, across the country and the world. Our aim is to set our students up for success from the start of their educational journeys with CDU.”
