At CDU, our Wireless Research Group is concentrating on the algebraic theory of advanced forward error correction (FEC) codes and their applications in wireless transmission and the protection of compressed video bitstreams.

Wireless transmission systems are a well-known technology in modern telecommunications. In recent years, this technology has been developed to support different types of high-speed wideband services such as the internet, video and multimedia.

Error control coding is an effective technique for improving the quality of data transmitted in noisy communications environments. For high-speed transmission systems, it is essential that FEC codes are constructed with an optimised transmission delay, while they maintain their ability to protect data against channel noise.

Our research finds new FEC code schemes suitable for the next generation of high-speed broadband systems. It aims to construct reliable codes compatible with other constituents and to improve system error correction.
