Women to Press for Progress at celebration

The Northern Territory will join the global call to action to “Press for Progress” when some of the NT’s most prominent women gather at Charles Darwin University this week to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The 8th International Women’s Day event hosted by the Northern Institute on the theme #PressforProgress will include speakers Her Honour the Honourable Administrator of the Northern Territory Vicki O’Halloran AM and Lauren Moss MLA. Also attending are NT Australian of the Year award recipients Bo Remenyi and Kathy (Gotha) Guthadjaka.

The aim of the international event is to motivate and unite friends, colleagues and communities to think, act and be gender inclusive.

Her Honour the Administrator said there was no doubt that a global movement was occurring.

“Ensuring that this momentum does not dwindle is the responsibility of all of us – across genders, ages and cultures,” she said. “It is my experience that together we can achieve great things.”

Along with the keynote speakers, the event will include a morning tea and panel session with the Darwin branch of the Australian Breastfeeding Association on the challenges for primary carers of children as they return to work.

The panel discussion will be adjudicated by the Women’s Network NT and Darwin Community Legal Service representative Megan Lawton, NT Anti-discrimination Commissioner Sally Sievers, Lia Finocchiaro MLA, returning to work mother Amy Harrison and stay at home father James Courtney.

The event will be held on International Women’s Day Thursday 8 March from 9am-12pm in the Mal Nairn Auditorium, building Red 7, CDU Casuarina campus.
