Territorians make tracks to CDU Open Day

Charles Darwin University Open Day has attracted visitors from throughout the Territory to reach record numbers today (23 August) at the annual event on Casuarina campus.

High school students from Alice Springs, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Darwin were among more than 5000 visitors who enjoyed interactive demonstrations of the work of VET and higher education staff and students, tours of the campus and inspections of the university’s newest facilities. 

CDU’s reputation as a research-intensive university, ranked in the top 100 universities in the world under 50 years of age, also was on display with key CDU research groups  holding information stalls.

The groups included the Centre for Renewable Energy, Darwin Centre for Bushfire Research, Menzies School of Health Research, Northern Environmental Science Programme, and the Northern Institute.

Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Sharon Bell said the event attracted visitors of all ages and highlighted the career pathways offered at CDU.

“It has been great to see such a wide range of visitors from across the Territory taking part in Open Day,” Professor Bell said. 

“Open Day reflects CDU’s commitment to delivering quality higher education and Vocational Education and Training courses in innovative and flexible ways. We hope that many of the visitors will return as members of our student body in the future.”

Visitors explored scores of stalls that showcased CDU’s areas of study, including medicine, nursing, education, environmental studies, pharmacy, health science, exercise and sports science, tourism and events, psychology, and arts.

The Course Info and Careers Hub debuted for the first time this year and included members of the wider community talking about the highs and lows of their careers.
