Territorians to follow their dreams at CDU

Charles Darwin University’s (CDU) Casuarina campus will open its doors on Sunday with more than 5000 people with big dreams and a dash of curiosity expected for the annual event. 

Discover CDU is a day celebrating learning with an extraordinary program of innovation, inspiration and entertainment. With more than 75 stalls and activities led by the university’s trailblazing researchers and students, there will be something for everyone.

There will be plenty of food and drink, including an attempt by the CDU Culinary Arts team to cook the NT’s biggest burger. 

Manager Student Recruitment and Events, Marissa Briston said school leavers and mature age students looking to upskill, change careers or re-train should love this year’s Discover CDU program.

Innovation is high on the agenda. Visitors will don headset and gloves to experience “Biidaaban: First Light”, a virtual reality canoe ride through the streets of Toronto presented by the Darwin Festival and CDU’s Innovative Media Production Studio. 

The university’s 3D printer will also strut its stuff. Visitors can watch as LightSPEE3D uses cold spray technology to produce metal objects in a matter of minutes. 

Things will get real down at the ERGT Fire Training Ground where visitors will feel the heat when a three-metre high tank and fuel storage area is set alight. 

For the kids, the Confucius Institute is offering calligraphy, paper cutting and other Chinese cultural activities. 

“Discover CDU provides an excellent opportunity for Territorians to see what’s new in the world and explore their options for study in a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere,” Ms Briston said.

“We will be live-streaming many talks and events, including the beginner’s guide to university, academic talks, scholarships and learning abroad.”
