Students make national cook-off
Three Charles Darwin University students will represent the Northern Territory at the WorldSkills Australia finals in Melbourne this week.
Retail baking student Jemma Hayman said she would bake a range of breads for a total of 13 hours over three days in the competition’s Retail Baking (Bread) category.
Jemma said she had practised for the competition by baking various types of breads, showpieces, croissants and brioche at the Palmerston campus commercial kitchen.
“There is a science when it comes to bread-making,” she said.
“You might be using the same ingredients, but slight changes could be applied to make something really different.”
CDU commercial cookery student Chloe Taylor will also compete in the WorldSkills competition, in the Open Cookery category, along with food and beverage graduate Georgia English, who will compete in the VET in Schools – Food and Beverage category.
