Students discover career opportunities

High school students from across the Northern Territory have learned about study and career pathways at Charles Darwin University’s recent Year 10 Discovery Day.

About 400 students from Darwin, Palmerston, Katherine, Nhulunbuy, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs attended fun and interactive information sessions at the recent Casuarina campus event.

Darwin High School student Luke McLaughlin said the event gave him an insight into the study requirements for various careers.

“I have learned a lot as a St John Ambulance cadet so I want to learn more to get an advanced skillset to get into nursing or medicine,” Luke said.

He said he planned to complete his university education in Darwin because his family lived there.

CDU Student Recruitment Coordinator Tanya Weatherstone said Year 10 was an important year for students to start thinking about what study requirements were needed to attain the career they wanted.

Included in this year’s interactive sessions were nursing, trades, law, construction and drafting, education, tourism, business, engineering, environmental science, scholarships, languages, and humanitarian and community studies.
