Psychology clinic opens its doors at CDU
A new clinic offering psychology services to Territorians will be officially opened at Charles Darwin University today.
The clinic will be staffed by intern psychologists who are undertaking advanced postgraduate training in clinical psychology.
CDU Head of Psychology Professor Kate Moore said all interns were provisionally registered psychologists with the Psychologists’ National Registration Board and would work under the supervision of fully registered, experienced and clinically endorsed psychologists.
“This year CDU has offered a Masters course in Clinical Psychology providing students with the opportunity to gain professional registration as a psychologist in Territory,” Professor Moore said.
“The course offers quality training in the Territory from professionally registered and experienced staff and, as such will contribute to overcoming the shortage of mental health professionals in the workforce, and to the health and wellbeing of Territorians.”
Professor Moore said as part of the course experience, CDU would provide students with practical experience at the new clinic.
“The Clinic will provide students with a wide range of experiences from individual and group therapy to a range of assessments and report writing,” she said. “It will also provide students with experience in liaising with practitioners in other disciplines, and in operating a clinic as a small business.”
She said the CDU Psychology Clinic would offer a range of therapies and assessments for people of all ages from five years onwards.
“We have a very experienced team to oversee a variety of assessments and subsequent reports for both children and adults. The clinic provides a full range of intellectual, cognitive, and personality assessment. The therapeutic approaches utilised are all focused on evidence-based best practice.”
Clinic appointments are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays: some early evening appointments are available. The clinic is located at CDU’s Casuarina campus, Yellow Building 1.2.30. Appointments can be made through the CDU Medical Centre on 8901 8800. For more information visit W: www.psychology-clinic.cdu.edu.au
