New Colombo Plan ambassadors visit University Indonesia

Law students have represented Charles Darwin University as ambassadors of the Federal Government’s New Colombo Plan program in Indonesia.

The nine students travelled to University Indonesia in Jakarta where they studied transnational organised crime as part of the New Colombo Plan (NCP) – Student Mobility Program.

CDU’s School of Law was the first law school in Australia to secure the NCP grant under the pilot program in 2014.

Students in this year’s program also met with organisations, including the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and Indonesia’s Ministry of Justice, Anti-Corruption Agency and Police.

CDU law lecturer Jeswynn Yogaratnam led the group to Jakarta and said such programs aimed to encourage cross-cultural and comparative law study exchanges between Australia and Indonesia.

“This initiative is part of the School of Law’s strategic direction in partnerships with higher education institutions in Indonesia,” Mr Yogaratnam said.

The student mobility program is sponsored by Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
