New arrivals and returning students alike will enjoy a range of activities as Semester 2 Orientation gets underway at Charles Darwin University this week.

Student Recruitment and Events Manager, Marissa Briston said there were plenty of activities designed to familiarise students with their new surroundings before teaching starts and things get more serious.

“At Casuarina campus, we kick off with a welcome breakfast on the Monday morning to make sure our students are fueled up for a big day,” Ms Briston said

“One of the Monday highlights will certainly be the Indigenous Knowledges and Learning Showcase featuring traditional art, didgeridoo playing, UPAI PURRI dancers and plenty of cultural activities.”

Other events feature a movie under the stars, activities such as yoga, and academic information sessions and workshops designed to help students with everything from note taking skills to being able to find resources in the library.

She said Orientation was an important time, especially for students who were starting studies mid-year.

“Orientation is a great way for students to make new friends and begin forming the support networks that can help them as the workload builds,” Ms Briston said.

Students can access advice on health and wellness as well as try the Gym@CDU for free during Orientation.

“With events also scheduled at Alice Springs and Sydney campuses, students also become familiar with the services and facilities available on each campus. We provide online workshops for all students who can’t attend on-campus events and they have the opportunity to join in the academic sessions and meet their lecturers online too.”
