Community members are invited to enjoy a jam-packed day of cultural activities, interactive workshops and free family entertainment at Charles Darwin University’s Casuarina campus Open Day.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Barney Glover said Open Day revellers need not be prospective or current students to enjoy a taste of what CDU has to offer.

“CDU is the Northern Territory’s only university, and we are more focused than ever on working with communities to advance our region,” Professor Glover said.

The program offers plenty of opportunities to get hands-on, including dispensing imitation medicines in the university’s mock pharmacy or creating art in a printmaking workshop.

Channel the inner chef at the hospitality demonstrations, which include cooking, baking and mocktail shaking.

People should bring along their smart phones or tablets to participate in the CDU Open Day Explorer Game and go into the draw to win the Ultimate Study Pack, which includes a MacBook Air laptop and Beats by Dre headphones.

Lap up the campus’ diverse culture with traditional Indonesian music performances, African drumming workshops, Bollywood dancing shows, Kung Fu demonstrations, and exotic fare at the food stands.

Free live entertainment will include local pop punk band, Skarlett, while the kids can enjoy face painting, a jumping castle, competitions and Bananas in Pyjamas live on stage.

Campus tours will include the recently opened North Australian Centre for Oil and Gas and the Australian Centre for Indigenous Knowledges and Education.

Exhibitions also will be on show in the university’s art galleries.

A series of information seminars will help prospective and current students and their families prepare for university life, while staff will be at hand to answer questions about course offerings and study options.

Open Day will run from 10am – 2pm on Sunday 25 August. For the full program visit W: www.cdu.edu.au/openday.
