Hundreds step into new life at uni

Hundreds of students experienced their first taste of university life today (Monday) as Orientation Week began on Casuarina campus.

Around 600 new and returning students are expected to attend various workshops and information sessions during the week-long event.

Student Recruitment and Events Manager Marissa Briston said Orientation helped students to become familiar with the campus and their course requirements, meet other students and discover the services available.

“Orientation is a great introduction to university life for students,” Ms Briston said.

“The week is filled with fun and engaging activities to help students settle into Semester One, which starts next week.”

The day began with a complimentary breakfast and welcome followed by activities, including a campus tour and a panel of past and present students who offered the newcomers tips about university life.

Students also attended free group fitness classes at The Gym@CDU and were invited to play the CDU Explorer Game to be in the running for an Ultimate Study Pack prize.

More than 40 government and non-government organisations showcased their products and services to students, and potential career and volunteer opportunities, at an exhibition on campus.

Special activities, including traditional art, music and dance workshops and performances, will be held at the Australian Centre for Indigenous Knowledges and Education building on Wednesday.

Park rangers will be at the activities displaying baby crocodiles, and students can learn how to play didgeridoo.

Students enrolled in CDU’s Alice Springs, Melbourne or Sydney campuses and centres will attend various Orientation activities later this week.
