Graduates prepare to celebrate
Proud family and friends will join Charles Darwin University staff to congratulate the university’s newest graduates during ceremonies in Darwin this week.
VET and higher education students will mark the culmination of their university studies at one of four ceremonies held over Thursday and Friday 19 and 20 May. CDU’s recently installed Chancellor, Mr Neil Balnaves AO, will deliver the Occasional Address at each of the four ceremonies.
Four Territorians will be honoured for their contributions to tertiary education in the NT: Mr Rex Wild QC, the Hon Christopher Burns, Emeritus Professor Helen Garnett PSM and Mrs Annette Burke.
Dr Burns will receive an honorary Doctor of Letters for his contribution to the development of tertiary education in the NT and commitment to serving the community.
Former Vice-Chancellor Emeritus Professor Garnett will receive an honorary Doctor of the University for her outstanding commitment to the development and advancement of tertiary education in the NT through her distinguished leadership of CDU.
Mr Wild will receive a Companion of the University for his outstanding contribution to the people and community of the NT throughout his distinguished legal career.
Mrs Burke also will receive a Companion of the University in recognition for her contribution to the advancement of the CDU Foundation and the university.
The May 19 morning ceremony will recognise graduands from the Faculty of Law, Education, Business and Arts: School of Business, School of Creative Arts and Humanities and School of Law along with the Australian Centre for Indigenous Knowledges and Education.
The May 19 afternoon ceremony will recognise graduands from the Faculty of Law, Education, Business and Arts: School of Education, and the Faculty of Vocational Education and Training: School of Service Industries.
The May 20 morning ceremony will include the Faculty of Engineering: Health, Science and the Environment: School of Health, along with graduates from Menzies School of Health Research and the Faculty of Vocational Education and Training: School of Primary Industries.
The second ceremony on May 20 will recognise the academic achievements of students from the Faculty of Engineering, Health, Science and the Environment: School of Engineering and Information Technology, School of Environment, School of Psychological and Clinical Sciences, and the Faculty of Vocational Education and Training: School of Health, Community and Children’s Services, School of Trades.
A total of 16 PhD candidates will graduate. The Darwin ceremonies will be held at the Darwin Convention Centre.
The Alice Springs graduation ceremony will be held at 7pm, Thursday June 16 at the Alice Springs Convention Centre while the Adelaide ceremony will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre at 7pm on Tuesday, June 14.
