Forum paints portrait of artistic world

Members of the public are invited to delve into the world of visual arts at a weekly forum on Charles Darwin University’s Casuarina campus.

The free CDU Art Forum features talks from local and interstate visual artists, gallery directors and curators, and other art and community arts stakeholders.

Visual Arts Lecturer Sarah Pirrie said the forum aimed to ensure art was kept on the local community’s agenda.

“Art should be discussed collectively in our community,” Ms Pirrie said.

“If we can keep people actively engaged in art and creative thought, then it is a positive thing.”

Included in the line-up of talented artists presenting at the forum is local weaver and CDU PhD candidate Aly de Groot.

Aly will discuss her latest public art project for the City of Darwin, “Intertwined”, which features cast bronze jellyfish forms installed at East Point Reserve earlier this year.

CDU PhD candidate and painter Sarah Moller will also present a talk about her work in painting.

Other speakers include Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory CEO Pierre Arpin, NT Arts and Cultural Development and Community and Cultural Services Coordinator, Sahn Cramer.
