Event to celebrate bold and brave women

Some of the Northern Territory’s most prominent women will take the stage during International Women’s Day 2017 at Charles Darwin University on Wednesday, 8 March.

The event themed #BeBoldForChange asks that people take the ground-breaking action that drives the greatest change for women to forge a better working environment and more gender inclusive world.

Hosted by the Northern Institute at CDU, the event will include special presentations by the NT Anti-Discrimination Commissioner Sally Sievers and Red Cross Voluntary Service Business Partner Andrea Lee.

Ms Sievers said she would speak on the need to continue striving for a gender equal society as the way to combat domestic and family violence.

“An area we have influence over is the workplace,” Ms Sievers said. “I’ve benefitted from flexible workplace arrangements and sponsorship that are both well researched ways to progress gender equity in the work place.”

This is the seventh year the Northern Institute has held an event celebrating International Women's Day, raising more than $1500 for charity. This year the gold coin donation on entry will go to the Red Cross.

Northern Institute acting director Professor Lisa McManus said she encouraged everyone, especially men, to attend the annual event that inspires people to strive for a better more inclusive world.
