CDU wins NT Training Provider of Year award

Charles Darwin University is celebrating five category wins following an outstanding night at the NT Training Awards, where the university collected the prestigious Training Provider of the Year award.

Apprentice electrician Thomas Moulds won the Austin Asche Apprentice of the Year, and Katherine-based horse-cattle production trainer Fiona Plunkett won the VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year award.

CDU is also sharing in the success of Cameron Brodie (Good Shephard Lutheran College) who undertook automotive training provided by CDU on way to winning the VET in Schools Student of the Year award, and Kate Gornall (O’Loughlin Catholic College), a business student who is this year’s School-based apprentice / trainee of the year.

Pro Vice-Chancellor VET Christine Robertson said the outcome reflected a year of outstanding commitment and effort from staff and students to strive for excellence.

“This is a proud moment for CDU. I especially wish to congratulate Thomas, Fiona, Cameron and Kate, but also acknowledge the runners-up and finalists,” Ms Robertson said.

“Collectively, these wins reinforce our strategic direction as a partner with community, industry and government to provide flexible, high-quality training to a mixed and multi-cultural student cohort.

“We deliver more than 160 qualifications from Certificate I to Diploma level to in excess of 10,000 students in more than 150 locations throughout the NT.”

Ms Robertson said CDU was now in the running for national recognition at the Australian Training Awards, which will be presented in Canberra in November.
