CDU a strong finalist at training awards

Charles Darwin University will be well represented at the NT Training Awards presentation ceremony in Darwin next month where it is in the running for two organisation awards and its students and staff are finalists in multiple individual categories.

Among the accolades to be announced at a gala awards night on 21 September will be the Industry Collaboration Award, in which CDU and the Gulkula Regional Training Centre are co-finalists, and the prestigious Training Provider of the Year award, which CDU has won in three of the past four years.

Construction trainer Mark Fudge and VET Workforce Development Coordinator Patricia Sweeney Fawcett are finalists in the hotly contested VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year award, a category that CDU staff have won for the past two years.

Some 16 CDU students are finalists in other categories.

Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor VET Ashar Ehsan said the awards showcased best practice in training and learning and congratulated all finalists for their commitment to excellence and skill building.

“The strength of nominations this year reflects Charles Darwin University’s endeavours to remain at the forefront of VET delivery, which is critical to the Territory’s economic and social advancement,” Mr Ehsan said.

“I’m proud that all four finalists in the Austin Asche Apprentice of the Year category are students from our School of Trades. I commend all four on their success; the winner will have the distinction of extending a CDU legacy in a category that we have won for the previous 11 years.”

Mr Ehsan said the presentation event was an important celebration for apprentices, trainees, vocational students, employers and VET sector organisations who collectively improve the lives of Territorians.
