CDU on the rise: World uni rankings

Charles Darwin University has risen in the ranks of the world’s top 400 universities during the past 12 months.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings has just released its 2014-15 rankings in which CDU is located in the 301 – 350 category, an increase on its ranking in the 351 – 400 category for the previous year.

Vice-Chancellor of CDU Professor Simon Maddocks said he was proud of the achievement of the relatively young university in being included in the world rankings for the fourth consecutive year.

“It’s clear that despite our size and age, CDU is extremely well regarded in the areas of international outlook and research, in particular,” he said.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings uses 13 separate performance indicators to examine a university’s strengths against its core missions: Teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

“The results reflect our strong growth in international student numbers and the quality of our research,” Professor Maddocks said.

“The Northern Territory should be very pleased that its university is achieving this level of international recognition.”

CDU was positioned between the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, and Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, in the 301 – 350 category.

A total of 25 universities in the Oceania region were included in the rankings, with CDU achieving 18th place within the region.

CDU also remains in the Times Higher Education rankings of the world’s 100 best universities less than 50 years old.
