CDU removes uncertainty about 2014 university fees

Students who enrol and begin studying at Charles Darwin University in 2014 will avoid the uncertainty surrounding funding changes foreshadowed by the Australian Government.

Vice-Chancellor of CDU Professor Simon Maddocks said Higher Education students who enrolled and started studying at CDU this year, including in Semester 2 and Summer Semester, would have the same fee conditions as current students. These fee conditions would apply for new 2014 students until they finished their degrees or until 2020.

“People who are thinking about going to university are unsure about fee levels in 2016 and beyond. Our commitment means that people enrolling and studying at CDU this year will know how much their fees will be. I am pleased that we are able to give students that certainty,” Professor Maddocks said.

In its 2014 Budget, the Australian Government announced that changes in fee arrangements would occur from 1 January 2016. Students who were already enrolled or had accepted a Commonwealth-Supported Place before 13 May 2014 were covered by existing arrangements. Students enrolling after this date are covered by the proposed new arrangements and face uncertainty about the level of fees after 1 January 2016.

“CDU not only performs a crucial role locally as the Northern Territory’s only university, it also has a strong profile nationally through its on-line student population. We want those students to continue to access the education that changes lives,” Professor Maddocks said.
