CDU appoints manager for Sydney centre
An international educator with a deep interest in exploring cultures is the new manager of the Charles Darwin University Sydney centre.
Matt Burton, who has worked with international students in China and the United States, comes to CDU from the position of Centre Director at IES Abroad Sydney, where he worked with three partner universities (Macquarie, UNSW and Sydney).
“I first developed a passion for exploring other cultures as a university student when I spent my summers traveling around Asia,” Mr Burton said.
“After completing my undergraduate studies, I moved to Yunnan province in southwest China to work for an NGO and then on to the US where I worked on cross-cultural study programs for college students.”
Mr Burton brings a wealth of experience in working with international students and said he hoped to further build student and staff engagement and a sense of community.
“My overseas experiences helped me appreciate where our international students are at with their own personal journeys, and the support they need to succeed,” he said.
“I’m passionate about education in general, and the power it has to transform lives."
Mr Burton said he was looking forward to the broad scope of the role involved in managing the centre from working at the front desk to meeting with a builder to discussing curriculum design all in the space of an hour.
He holds a Master of Education (Leadership and Management) from the University of Sydney, a Master of Teaching from Charles Sturt University, and a Bachelor of Visual Design from the University of Newcastle.
