AFL sports star makes final

A pre-service teacher who is making history in the first AFL women’s league is one of seven Charles Darwin University students selected as a finalist in this year’s NT Young Achiever Awards.

Bachelor of Education (Primary Teaching) student Jasmine Anderson, who was recruited recently as a rookie by the Adelaide Crows women’s team, was nominated for the Zip Print Sports Award.

Research Institute for the Environment and Livelihoods PhD candidate Alyson Stobo-Wilson and research assistant Madeline Goddard are both finalists for the ConocoPhillips Environment Award.

Other CDU finalists include: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Knowledges student Ineke Wallis for the Genesee & Wyoming Australia Indigenous Achievement Award; commerce student Kyaw Naing for the NT Government Young Carer’s Award: psychological science student Rian Smit for the PTTEP Australasia Health and Wellbeing Award; and law student Mark Munnich for the Minister for Territory Families Excellence in Youth Leadership Award.

Three creative young Territorians also were nominated for the Charles Darwin University sponsored Arts Award.

Award winners will be announced during a presentation dinner on Saturday, 1 April.
