Arsh IT student 2

Arsh arrived from India with a dream to pursue a career in Information Technology (IT). CDU offered the perfect degree to get him started.

“I applied to various universities abroad but chose CDU over others because of the flexible bachelor of IT’s course structure,” says Arsh. “The course covers in-depth and core IT subjects and offers a range of electives over many disciplines.”

The benefits of studying at CDU

“The support one gets from CDU is exceptional,” says Arsh.

“CDU’s atmosphere is really inclusive, and the opportunities provided like the AWEsome program that the CDU Career Centre manages are highly relevant for students who want to experience what the workplace is like while studying.”

A world of opportunities

Arsh is grateful to CDU for the opportunities they have provided. He believes these have been vital in expanding on his experience and boosting his career.

“My Faculty, the Faculty of Science and Technology, organises the CDU IT Code Fair every year which is a great opportunity to connect with the industry and people and showcase one’s projects,” he says.

The CDU IT Code Fair hosts various competitions and challenges which focus on showcasing a participant’s understanding of technology and applying them to solve real-world issues.

The code fair also provides a great stepping stone into the world of work.

“There’s an event called speed dating in which more than 20 companies interview around 26-30 candidates who will be graduating that year,” says Arsh. “This is a great opportunity to get a job in the NT and beyond.”

Entering the workplace

Arsh’s experience in the workplace started early after he found an internship posting via the career centre job portal search.

“I applied for an internship as a software engineer, got an interview and got the position,” he says. ‘I’m learning a lot about web development and am enjoying it.”

As for the future, Arsh has big dreams.

“I want to work for a multinational giant someday,” he says. “These are exciting times we live in, there are a lot of start-ups doing wonders in terms of innovation in AI, cybersecurity and data analytics.

I’m still exploring options but I’m excited for my career ahead.”
