In 2013, Robert visited CDU for a campus tour. He immediately felt that the university was the right choice for him.

“I was impressed with the multicultural environment and various opportunities and career paths that CDU was able to provide to its students and graduates,” says Robert.

“I’d become tired of living in the busy metros, so the free and slow-paced lifestyle on offer in the territory was appealing.”

Career success

Since graduating with a Master of Accounting (Professional Practice), Robert has taken big strides in his career.

“From a graduate to a manager-level accountant, from a second-tier accounting firm to a BIG 4 and then to the government, I believe this shows the truth itself,” says Robert.

“With all the experience I’ve accumulated in the firms since graduating, I joined the City of Darwin as a Management Account in 2022, which realised my dream to serve our city.”

The future

Robert’s wife is also a CDU graduate. Their future in Darwin looks bright.

“We knew each other before coming to Australia and she joined me to study at CDU one year after me,” says Robert.

“She’s had a good career path after graduating from CDU and is currently working for the Darwin branch of a World leading logistic group. We married in November 2021 and own our first home at Darwin Waterfront.”

Robert’s personal and professional success and happiness are clear.

“Darwin has a very inclusive community and I’ve made hundreds of friends from different backgrounds,” he says.

Study experience

Robert has experienced many highlights in his time at CDU. These include working as a resident leader on campus, being part of CDU’s Business and Accounting Mentor Program 2022 and undertaking an internship at Darwin Convention Centre.

“The internships open the door for students to the professional world. After the 300 hours of internship, I no longer felt scared and confused about my career. It guided me on my career path.”

Robert is also thankful to the CDU staff.

“CDU has outstanding tutors and lecturers who are passionate about their jobs, always patient and eager to help the students and set up a role model for us.”

Words of wisdom

“Blend yourself in the local communities and take every opportunity to network with the professionals,” says Robert. “Communication skills are extremely important in this industry.”
