Studying Accounting at CDU, Nagendra’s decision with no regrets
Nagendra arrived in Australia from Tikapur in Nepal to further his education and pursue a dream career. Four years later he’s a proud CDU graduate with a Masters of Professional Accounting. He currently works as Receiver of Territory Monies in patient accounts at Royal Darwin Hospital.
“I was always fascinated by numbers and from a young age I knew that an accounting degree was what I wanted to do,” says Nagendra. “After studying my Bachelors of Business Administration, I wanted more for myself, and I thought of Australia as the destination for further studies.”
A calculated decision
Nagendra initially lived in Sydney for a year but soon realised it wasn’t for him.
I enrolled myself in CDU and moved to Darwin in 2018. It was the best decision I’ve ever made, he says.
Nagendra was drawn to CDU because it attracts international students from over 70 countries and offers world class education and modern and high tech infrastructure.
“CDU provides relevant training and placement opportunities as well as many scholarship options,” says Nagendra, “It also has highly qualified and friendly tutors with years of experience.”
Working his way through study
During his time at CDU, Nagendra found it easy to find part-time and casual work to support his studies.
There are lots of jobs available in different sectors, including hospitality, fast-food, customer service or health care,” he says.
One of Nagendra’s most rewarding work experience was his professional placement at Traditional Credit Union Bank.
“My placement introduced me to the real-life working environment, and I was able to implement my academic knowledge into work. I also believe it opened career doors for me.”
No place like Darwin
Moving and adapting to life in Darwin has been a breeze for Nagendra. In fact, he calls Darwin his second home.
Darwin is a small welcoming community where it’s very easy to make close friends and connections with people who can help you get the job you’re looking for,” he says.
“There’s a great multicultural environment and the rapidly growing Nepali community means I’ve never felt far from home.”
Nagendra has also fallen in love with Darwin’s natural beauty.
“Darwin is so close to nature and there are so many things and adventures I enjoy doing here like fishing, camping or swimming.”
Words of wisdom
So, what advice does Nagendra offer aspiring students?
You’ll have no regrets coming to Darwin and studying at CDU. The experience is really enriching and by the time you complete your degree, you’ll be well prepared for the working environment.
“I’ve grown so much personally and professionally over the years here in Darwin, and I’ve no doubt there’s a lot more potential for my growth in the future.”
