Nam Thien Tang: your future doctor of medicine

Nam Thien Tang is currently studying a Bachelor of Clinical Sciences with CDU. Hear his tips on studying and his plans for the future.

What do you like most about studying with CDU?

What I like best about CDU is it's a very open and accepting environment. You will meet people from all walks of life and develop skills for interacting with them. CDU is the epitome of multicultural Australia.

What has been the most challenging aspect of studying for you?

The most challenging aspect of studying at university is the studying structure. One must set a homework plan, quite unlike school. The biggest danger of this is losing the motivation to continue studying. To reacquire this motivation, try to reflect on what you have accomplished to get to where you are and what you have to lose. These are often overlooked elements of people's lives.

What is your top study tip?

My top study tip is to, wherever possible, try not to simply memorise content. Instead, come up with fun mnemonics (the sillier the better!) and form connections between different pieces of content and aspects of your life to make it more memorable.

What next once you complete study?

I intend to become a doctor of medicine after completing my studies.

I want to ... discover medical breakthroughs to improve the lives of those around the world.

How will you use knowledge to help shape a better future?

I wish to use my knowledge of medicine to provide care to the community that is dear to my heart. I was born and brought up in Darwin and have lived here my entire life. The people here have treated me with such kindness and generosity that I have not experienced anywhere during my travels across the world. I want to heal the sick and suffering and discover medical breakthroughs to improve the lives of those around the world.
