CDU Alumni Trevor

Trevor recently graduated from CDU with a Master's in Information Technology (Cybersecurity). His experience of studying at CDU has been extremely positive.

“CDU is a great choice for study because the professors are knowledgeable and the environment is friendly,” he says.

“The course is more technical and involves lots of practical work, so it is good for preparing you for the real world.”

Networking opportunities

Trevor attended many technical events during his time at CDU. These were conducted by many of the industry’s technical bodies.

“These events provided a great way to network with people in the industry and offered a really good platform to showcase my skills and create opportunities,” says Trevor.

CDU IT Code Fair

While studying, Trevor participated in the CDU IT Code Fair, where he won the NT Digital Excellence Award 2021. It was the start of great things.

“The regional manager of NEC got to know me through the fair and asked me to join the company,” says Trevor. “I’ve since been working with NEC as a Junior Network Engineer.”

Our office is located on the Darwin Esplanade. It has an ocean view and is five minutes from everything.

Working with NEC has opened opportunities for me to work anywhere across Australia.”

Living the dream

For now, Trevor has no plans to move anywhere. He loves the lifestyle that Darwin offers.

“The roads are not busy, and you can get literally anywhere in no time,” he says.

“You come across people with different cultures, different backgrounds, and those who speak different languages, and the way they’re living together is amazing.”

Trevor also loves the mix of nature and nightlife.

“There are so many places to visit. There are a lot of national parks, and jogging across the beaches is really relaxing,” he says. “In the city, I enjoy going out clubbing and hanging out with my friends.”

A final word

For Trevor, it’s clear that Darwin has become home.

“Darwin is a small place but has many opportunities, especially through studying,” says Trevor.

“CDU provides many services to international students to ensure your wellbeing, not only with your academic success but for your whole journey.”
