Five reasons to further your studies at CDU
A degree from Charles Darwin University (CDU) can increase your career prospects, develop your skillset, and introduce you to Australian culture and networking opportunities. Here are five reasons why you should study with CDU.
Reason 1: Develop your skills
Lectures at CDU cover a variety of exciting and relevant concepts and allow you to specialise in your future career.
After studying electronics in Maharashtra, India, Kalyani chose to study a Master of Information Technology with CDU.
“This program would allow me to specialise in both information systems and data science. The other programs I explored were not as multidisciplinary,” she recalls.
Reason 2: Be immersed in Australian culture
Australia is bursting with culture, history and opportunity – and a whole lot of slang! Attempting to jump straight into the Australian workplace may be overwhelming.
Sushan from Nepal studies a Master of Business Administration Sustainable Leadership at CDU. English is his third language.
“Understanding the Aussie accent and the slang used by locals can be a bit challenging initially,” Sushan says. “However, CDU provides plenty of opportunities to practice speaking and listening. Also, Aussies are really friendly; just ask them to repeat or explain what they said”.
Here is a guide to basic Aussie slang.
Reason 3: Workplace preparation support
CDU prepares you for the Australian workplace with language support, placement opportunities, cultural events and professional development. The CDU Careers Centre delivers mock interviews and assists with creating resumes and finding jobs.
Thisari from Sri Lanka graduated from CDU with a Master of Information Technology. She is excited about the opportunity to participate in CDU’s AWEsome Program.
“Australian work culture is different from my home country. So, I thought this is going to be good practice for my future career,” she says.
Reason 4: Networking
A degree from CDU will open your network of contacts – an asset that cannot be underestimated in a new country. Form lifelong connections with classmates and lecturers and attend University professional events and volunteering opportunities, such as Student Clubs. CDU also offers professional placements for eligible courses.
Sulav from Nepal says he had the opportunity to work closely with CDU’s IT team to showcase the impact of the local IT industry at CDU’s IT Code Fair.
“It is one of the biggest events in the Darwin IT space, and it includes various challenges and innovations to showcase the students’ skills,” Sulav said. “It’s also a great opportunity to connect with representatives from the local IT industry.”

Reason 5: More career prospects and better pay
A CDU degree stands out to employers. 94.1% of CDU postgraduate students find full-time employment within four months of graduating. Not only that, but CDU graduates earn at least 5% more than the average graduate, boasting an average graduate salary of $96,000 AUD.
Rafat from Bangladesh graduated from CDU with a Master of Professional Accounting (Professional Practice) and is now employed with KMPG Australia.
“The cherry on top is that we get a 300-hour placement opportunity in an Australian company. Not all universities in Australia offer this, so it is an amazing learning opportunity for any student,” she says.
