Debra's happy family

When Debra Hutcheson started her career at entry level with the Northern Territory Government, she knew she wanted to achieve more. Studying at CDU was just the thing she needed to make an impression and rise up the ranks.

Working for the Top End West Outreach Team in Top End Health Services, Debra enjoyed the work but knew she wanted to achieve more. It was her decision to study a Certificate III in Business online through CDU that made that possible.

'With the flexibility to complete my certificate online, I was able to continue in my job while completing the course work in my spare time' said Debra.

Debra went from holding an entry level administration position with the Top End Health Service to now proudly holding the Senior Business Support Officer title for the Top End West region in the Primary Health Care division.

Studying at CDU has helped me gain a qualification to move up the ladder within my workplace

The Senior Business Support Officer role is responsible for the smooth operations of the Community Health Centres in Adelaide River, Batchelor, Daly River, Wadeye and Palumpa.

As well as providing exceptional administration services, Debra ensures that the health centres are stocked with medical equipment and medication, organises travel for relief nursing staff, stocks staff houses with essentials, and makes sure all staff have their Working With Children’s clearances.

Working in such a vital role providing health services to Indigenous people in remote communities is just the kind of challenge that Debra was looking for. It proves that everyone can make an impact.

Anyone can make a difference, all you have to do is try.

Now that Debra’s a graduate and enjoying the challenge of her new job, she has some great advice for future students at CDU.

"Never be too shame job to ask a question – no question is a stupid question" she says.

If you really want to advance, put your best foot forward and make the effort.

Are you ready to make change for the better? Follow in Debra's footsteps with a  Certificate III in Business with CDU.
