CDU student recognised at NT Young Achiever Awards for dedication to community
A passionate Master of Data Science student who dials down data to deliver business savvy insights has received an NT Young Achiever Award for his dedication to the Darwin community.
Cong Do (Peter) Le received the International Student Award sponsored by Charles Darwin University (CDU) at the recent ceremony, which has been held annually since 1994.
He is only in the first year of his degree, but with a background in civil engineering, retail, and hospitality, already brings a unique perspective to data analysis with his real-world experience.
“I managed a café in Maningrida for two years before coming to Darwin to study,” Mr Le said.
“I used the data from our transactions to figure out what our most popular products were, who were our loyal customers, what was the busiest time of day and when it was quiet so we could launch out appropriate promotions to appeal to more customers. Then we could see how to improve our customer service and make the business more efficient.”
“Now studying at CDU, I want to become a data scientist and translate complex data into strategies that can help businesses improve their processes and be more productive.”
Peter is a Study NT Student Ambassador, Lions International Club volunteer and tutor.
He has also showcased his skills as a CDU IT Code Fair Ambassador, mentored as a CDU Senior Buddy and contributed to the CDU Vietnamese Student Association.
Currently working at an engineering consultant company as a data analyst in Darwin, Peter combines his past skills with present career interests and aims to “use the power of data” to solve real-world problems and drive innovation.
"I'm looking forward to applying my skills to a role in my field. I always say ‘why not?’, sometimes you just need to take a leap of faith and see where it goes.”
