SPECIAL NOTE: This Help page (ADV4200c) is Part Three of a three part series of files for ADVF4200. This file explains the screen that appears after selecting the Unit Level Details button. This button appears in the bottom block of ADVF4200. (Note: The file ADV4200b explains the screen that appears after selecting the Unit Details button.) |
This section ONLY deals with the Unit Level Details button. For a full description of ADVF4200, see the Help file AD4200a. Advanced Standing Unit Level is accessed via the Unit Level Details button at the bottom of the block. There are two types of Advanced Standing recorded in the system:
Advanced Standing for a Unit Level recognises that a student has undertaken prior studies or has experience which, while not being equivalent to a specific Unit, has a degree of relevance to the Student's Course Attempt. The prior studies/experience are assessed as being equivalent to a number of Credit Points at a particular Unit Level (or Levels). Separate Unit Level Advanced Standing records are created for each combination of Unit Level (in which Advanced Standing is granted) and basis institution. Unit Level Advanced Standing is Credit toward the student's course progression and completion. The Rules sections, below, contain important information regarding transactions using this screen. The Notable Effects section, below, details the effects of the various attributes of an Advanced Standing Unit Level record. The operation of the Advanced Standing Subsystem, including the recording process and use of 'Granting Statuses' is elaborated upon in Understanding Advanced Standing. Each field is described in detail in the Subsystem Glossary. For example, a student applies for Advanced Standing in the Bachelor of Arts. The student has previously studied for and been awarded an Arts Diploma. Due to the general overlap of these two courses the student is granted eight Level 1 Credit Points as their Advanced Standing in the Bachelor of Arts. Another student has partially completed a Bachelor of Education at another institution, completing five first year and two second year Units. They have enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts at this institution. It is assessed that the prior study justifies Advanced Standing of eight Credit Points at Level 1 and fours Credit Points at Level 2. In both cases the Advanced Standing is recorded in the System against the students' current Course Attempts. When defining an Advanced Standing the user can select from Granting Statuses (Granting Status) of: APPROVED ASSESSING, CANCELLED, DECLINED, GRANTED, NOT-APPRVD and REVOKED. For further insights on the different Granting Status and Dates, see below. For insights on Advanced Standing see 'Understanding Advanced Standing (ADVINTR3)'. For a glossary of terms, see 'Advanced Standing Glossary (ADVINTR2)'. This form is accessed from the main menu. |
Note: This is only a description of what is shown when the Unit Level Details (Advanced Standing Unit Level) button is selected. See ADV4200A for a full description of other aspects of ADVF4200. The SCA Advanced Standing block contains:
The SCA Advanced Standing Unit Level overlay contains:

Rules/Notes: For details of the Unit Details button - Advanced Standing Unit, see ADV4200B. When Advanced Standing is recorded, any status other than EXPIRED may be set. For details of Validations see ADVF4200. Changes within this form will have the following notable effects:
For information on the Field Details of Unit Level blocks and tabs, see ADVF2000. The Crs Grouped check box has no system functionality. It is used for local development reports to, for example, determine how many units of a course a student has undertaken. The Advanced Standing Source field, located in the Basis Details tab, is used to add the institution-defined source (ADVF1140) which defines the basis or type of advanced standing for a VET or cross-sector unit level (and/or unit, see ADV4200b). If you attach a Precedent (via the Find Precedent icon) of type 'Advanced Standing' to a student's course attempt in this form, and the Precedent has an Advanced Standing Source, then
the Advanced Standing Source is automatically added to the Advanced Standing Source field (in the Basis Details tab in this form) for all unit levels (and/or units (ADV4200b)) associated with the Precedent (PRDW0400). Granting Status Depending on what Granting Status is selected, the area after the 'Created' field in the Admin Details tab dynamically changes. For example, if ASSESSING was selected as a Granting Status, then the area after the 'Created' date field in the Admin Details tab would have an 'Assessing' date field added. The matrix below shows what field/s are displayed, when different Granting Statuses are selected.
The Adv Stnd Cat field is used to select an institution-defined Advanced Standing Category (ADVF1130) for the advanced standing record being created. Advanced Standing Categories (ADVF1130) are mapped to a System Advanced Standing Recognition Type (ADVF1120). The System Advanced Standing Recognition Type that applies to the selected Advanced Standing Category value is displayed in the 'System Adv Stnd Recog Type' field in the Basis Details tab. The Origin Course and Origin Unit records are not related (even though they are created in one form), therefore, when entering data in one, the other does not need to be populated. Advanced Standing Origins are maintained in the form, Maintain Advanced Standing Origin (ADVF1190). Note: Data from the Origin Course Code field in the Origin Course Tab or Origin Unit Code field in the Origin Unit Tab are found in one table, the Advanced Standing Origin Instance Table (ADV_STND_ORIGIN_INSTANCE).
The Precedents tab in the 'SCA Advanced Standing Unit Level' overlay block (accessed via the Unit Level Details button) displays details of the Precedent (PRDW0400) (of Type 'Advanced Standing ') that was used as the basis for the student's context Unit Level advanced standing record. This information is read-only. The Precedent Details button is used to view additional details of a selected Precedent listed under the Precedents tab. It navigates to the Summary Overview step for the context Precedent (PRDW0400), in 'view only' mode. |

Advanced Standing can be manually changed from APPROVED to GRANTED where the Student Course Attempt Status is INACTIVE, INTERMIT or ENROLLED. The Grant Advanced Standing job (ADVJ4411), amongst other things, changes the Status of Advanced Standing application records from APPROVED to GRANTED when the Student Course Attempt's Status is ENROLLED only. Granting Statuses and their use are explained in detail in Understanding Advanced Standing. See also the Grant Advanced Standing job (ADVJ4411). The rules for modifying records, below, also apply to changes made to default values for a new record. |

The display of dates associated with a record (Created, Assessing, Granted, Revoked, Expiry, Cancelled, Not Approved or Declined) is dynamically configured. Only the dates relevant to the record's Granting Status are displayed. If the Not Transferable check box is ticked, it prevents the Unit or Unit Level details from being transferred during Course Transfer. |
