Overview
The purpose of this course is for you to acquire the knowledge and skills to enable you to exercise your powers to promote and ensure the health and safety of members of your work group.
By completing the Health & Safety Representative Initial 5-day program, HSRs will gain the powers to direct that unsafe work cease and issue provisional improvement notices if required.
It provides participants with the skills and knowledge to fulfil the Health & Safety Representative (HSR) role set down in Section 72 of the Workplace Health & Safety Act 2011.
- Interpreting the work health and safety (WHS) legislative framework
- Legislative obligations and duties of key parties
- Evolution of WHS in the workplace
- Terminology under the WHS framework and key concepts
- Role and function of state or territory regulators
- WHS consultation, representation and participation in the workplace
- Rights and protections of an elected HSR or deputy HSR
- Health and Safety Committee (HSC)
- Issue resolution, requirements and monitoring
- Identification and assessment of WHS hazards and risks
- Inspections, notifiable incidents and incident investigation
- Provisional improvement notices (PINs)
