Overview
Our Graduate Diploma of Health Research will equip you with advanced knowledge and skills in health research design and practice. This course provides a unique opportunity to learn from acclaimed Menzies School of Health Research professionals in the specialist areas of Indigenous health, public health and global health
You will acquire theoretical and practical capabilities in:
- epidemiology;
- biostatistics;
- quantitative and qualitative research methods.
On completion you can articulate to a Master of Health Research and undertake a supervised research project; and then proceed, with approval, to Higher Degree Research training. Alternatively, you can articulate to a Master of Public Health.
Career opportunities for graduates include the areas of health research and professional public health practice.
This course requires a high level of academic reading and writing. The University's academic support services are on hand should you need support.
Students in this course are enrolled in CDU units, as CDU students. Educators from Menzies School of Health Research coordinate and deliver the course.

Graduating from this course may lead to career opportunities in non-government organisations (NGOs) and government sectors in areas such as: health research; professional health practice; health policy and planning; epidemiology; communicable and chronic disease; community development and aid work.

Fees
Both Commonwealth supported (CS) and full fee (FF) places are available for this course. If you would like to apply for a CS place use the SATAC code 1GD034 or UAC code 822040. If you would like to apply for a FF place you will need to use the SATAC code 1GD534 or UAC code 872040.
Commonwealth supported places
Commonwealth Supported places are available in this course to students who meet one of the following residency requirements:
(a) be an Australian citizen, who will complete some of your course of study while resident in Australia; or
(b) a New Zealand citizen; or an Australian permanent visa holder; or an eligible former permanent humanitarian visa holder; who studies the entire course while living in Australia.

International tuition fees
The annual tuition fee for full time study in 2024 is AUD $31,584.00. This equates to $ $3,948.00 per 10 credit point unit (0.125 EFTSL).
These fees are subject to increases annually, effective at the start of each calendar year.

What will I study?
The Graduate Diploma of Health Research is a one year course. The core units cover the essential knowledge and skills of health research and the choice of specialist electives provide you with opportunities to explore various areas of health research and public health.
Course structure
Delivered externally online; some units are offered with an internal option.
A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 80 credit points as detailed below. All units are valued at 10 credit points unless indicated.

Entry requirements
Admission criteria
Successful completion of a recognised bachelor degree, graduate diploma, master's degree or equivalent international qualification. Registered nurses who are graduates of a hospital-based program are also eligible for entry
Consideration will be given to applicants who only hold a graduate certificate.
International entry pathway
International Pathway
Applicants who have completed the CDU International Masters Qualifying Program (ZMQP01) or the Accelerated International Masters Qualifying Program (ZAMQP1) are eligible for entry.
