CDU Sydney Campus graduation had nearly tripled since its first ceremony three years ago

Academic caps were tossed in not one but two Charles Darwin University (CDU) graduation ceremonies in Sydney this year, with a record number of students completing their studies.

Three years on from CDU Sydney’s first graduation ceremony, numbers have tripled to more than 400 students finishing and celebrating their qualifications at the October event.

The record number of graduates prompted CDU to host a second ceremony in Sydney for the first time.

Students were recognised for completing a range of qualifications with 402 in degree education, five in Vocational Education and Training (VET) and eight PhD graduates. The students graduated in a range of disciplines including nursing and midwifery, IT, education, law, exercise and sport science and accounting to name a few.

One graduating CDU Bachelor of Nursing student, Megan Toole will be receiving The University Medal for the highest-Grade Point Average over 6.5.

CDU Associate Vice-Chancellor Sydney Dr Penelope Sweeting, who graduated last year with her PhD said she was thrilled to see the ceremony grow.

“I am so pleased to see so many talented students graduate from their studies, and I know they will go on to do great things for their communities and beyond,” Dr Sweeting said.

“On behalf of our educators and professional staff we wish them continued success for their future endeavours.”

CDU Vice-Chancellor Professor Scott Bowman said he was lucky to share the day with all those who attended the graduation ceremonies in Sydney.

“Graduation marks a significant milestone in our students’ academic journey and is an opportunity to celebrate our outstanding students here in Sydney and the people who have supported them along the way,” Professor Bowman said.

“The number of graduands is a testament to the work the University is doing. We are thrilled to have been able to play an important role in their achievements and I congratulate all the graduates on completing their studies.”

The CDU Graduation ceremonies were held at the Wesley Conference Centre on Pitt Street, with one morning and one afternoon ceremony.
