The Honourable Paul Henderson AO, who was appointed to the position of Charles Darwin University (CDU) Chancellor in February 2019, will end his tenure in March 2025.

CDU Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Scott Bowman said it was an honour and privilege to work with the Chancellor.

“Paul advised the Council that he would not be seeking an extension to his appointment after his six years in the role as he believes now is the right time for transition to a new Chancellor. He has provided strong and unwavering leadership as the CDU Chancellor,” Professor Bowman said.

“Paul’s vision, advice and hard work has assisted the University on multiple strategic fronts. To name just a few, they include overseeing the City Deals initiative, resulting in the new Danala | Education and Community Precinct.

“As well as successfully navigating the COVID disruption; increasing the CDU campus footprint across the Northern Territory to deliver greater education and training opportunities for Territorians; strengthening the internationalisation of CDU; and securing funding for a new medical program.

“I’m sure the entire University Council, staff and students will join me in wishing Paul well in the next chapter of his life. We have been immensely fortunate to have had Paul as CDU’s Chancellor for six years. He has generously donated his time without remuneration, and I am sure he will remain connected with the University.”

With the conclusion of the Chancellor’s term, the University will shortly commence its search for his successor.

A Chancellor Selection Committee has been recently established with the Chair of the committee Dr Ruth Schubert, a member of CDU Council saying the Council will begin the process of appointing a new Chancellor as soon as possible.

“The appointment of a new Chancellor is a key priority for the Council and further information about the call for expressions of interest will be provided in the upcoming period,” Dr Schubert said.
