CDU celebrates National Careers Week to show pathways to students
CDU recently celebrated National Careers Week, a week aimed at showcasing the various career opportunities and development pathways available to students.
CDU’s Career Centre led the week-long activities which included a mix of in-person and online activities and workshops.
The activities were organised daily with students engaged throughout the week on multiple campuses including Casuarina, Waterfront and Sydney as well as our external students online.
CDU Careers Centre Manager Liz Hendry said the week’s activities were incredibly successful with over 300 students attending.
"National Careers Week 2024 at CDU was a dynamic and engaging series of events, which offered students valuable insights and practical skills,” Ms Hendry said.
“From the Start-Up Summit with Jahin Tanvir to the LinkedIn Headshots and in-depth sessions on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, every event was planned with the students in mind.”
Other sessions included a panel of CDU Alumni entrepreneurs who are now running successful businesses in the NT and students took the lead in the online conversation about Working with Cultural Differences and how we can learn to better understand each other in the workplace.
The Careers Centre at the Sydney campus hosted a Careers Conference where students heard directly from industry experts including EY and LinkedIn.
A panel of professional industry associations representatives provided information on the key skills and experiences sought by employers, tips on engaging with industry, and how to build professional brand online.
CDU Career Centre Employability Programs Officer Caroline Thompson said the week’s activities were chosen in consultation with students.
“We developed the National Careers Week schedule in consultation with students to make sure that we were really answering their needs and interests,” Ms Thompson said.
“Throughout the whole week, the Careers Centre's social media pages buzzed with student success stories, Day in the Life videos from various local businesses and how to videos.”
“Student feedback indicated that students got a lot out of the week-long activities which is always nice to hear and provides the Careers Centre team with the motivation to continue our commitment to student success and professional development.”
Next Year’s National Careers Week will run from the 12th-18th May 2025.
