Overview
A set of skills to equip an individual to sell, serve or supply alcohol responsibly.
This skill set is for personnel involved in the sale, service, promotional service, delivery and supply of alcohol to customers. It also applies to the licensee who is ultimately responsible for managing the responsible service of alcohol.
The unit also applies to security staff who monitor customer behavior and to the licensee who is ultimately responsible for responsible service of alcohol (RSA) management.
Responsible practices must be undertaken wherever alcohol is sold, served, or supplied, including where alcohol samples are served during on-site product tastings. This unit therefore applies to any workplace where alcohol is sold, served, or supplied, including all types of hospitality venues, packaged liquor outlets and wineries, breweries and distilleries.
This program is available to international students (CRICOS exempt).
Career opportunities
Achievement of this unit provides credit towards qualifications in tourism, travel, hospitality and holiday parks and resorts in the SIT Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Training Package.
Possible occupations relevant to this program include:
- food and beverage attendants
- packaged liquor salespersons selling in person, over the phone or online
- winery, brewery and distillery cellar door staff
- delivery services and supplier sales representatives.

Skill recognition
Credit transfer, or advanced standing, is awarded based on previous relevant studies completed successfully within the past seven years.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process of advanced standing where credit is granted based upon the assessment of a student's prior formal, non-formal and informal learning (or a combination thereof) to determine the extent to which the student has achieved the required learning outcomes of a specified unit.
To apply for credit transfer or RPL, you must apply to study at CDU and submit the relevant supporting documents including:
- HE113 Application for Exemption Form (PDF, 216.84 KB)
- Official Academic Record (Academic transcript and award certificates)
- Unit outlines or syllabus matching time-frame of studies. Unit outlines must be specific to the teaching period in which the unit was undertaken and must include:
- aims/objectives
- learning outcomes
- assessment items
- resources required and institutional identifiers (web links are not accepted, these must be converted to PDF prior to submission)

Certification requirements apply at a state and territory level to individuals involved in the sale, service, promotional service, delivery and supply of alcohol in licenced premises. Certification in some States relies on the achievement of SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol.
