A Charles Darwin University (CDU) lecturer and researcher has been invited to attend the Institute of Education and Centre for Equity through Education at New Zealand’s prestigious Massey University as a visiting research scholar.

As a visiting scholar, Dr Stephen Bolaji who is a lecturer in education at CDU, will be engaging in collaborative research studies with Associate Professor Alison Kearney, the Director of the Institute and Lead of the Equity Through Education (EtE) Research Centre.

The EtE brings together an interprofessional community of educators inquiring into issues of educational equity, diversity and social justice.

Dr Bolaji’s work centres on educational policy and philosophical issues, diversity, inclusive practices, intercultural understanding, curriculum and pedagogical discourses.

Of being a visiting research scholar at Massey University, Dr Bolaji said it will be a valuable experience and he looks forward to sharing his extensive research knowledge.

“This visit will help to foster research collaboration between CDU and Massey academics, particularly in the field of equity in education,” Dr Bolaji said.

“It offers access to specialised resources like libraries and databases which will help to foster better research capabilities.”

“Collaborating with experts in the field provides chances for joint projects and new insights and networking with fellow researchers and educators expands professional connections.”

“The institute's environment exposes scholars to the latest research trends and advancements in equity education and it offers a chance to experience a new culture, leading to personal growth.”

Massey University is one of the ancient universities in New Zealand with a strong reputation in education.

The Institute of Education is as old as the university, spread across the entire landscape of New Zealand, notably for producing quality teachers for their education sector.

Dr Bolaji is no stranger to international collaborations, having been closely engaged with Ludwigsburg University of Education in Germany since 2019. His collaboration there has revolved around intercultural recognition and global competencies in Higher Education.

Dr Bolaji will be attending Massey University in Palmerston North, New Zealand, from March to May 2024.
