Students experience the science of life

Some of the brightest young minds in the Northern Territory have been nurtured at Charles Darwin University’s Year 11 Science Experience.

Science talks were presented to eight select school students from Darwin, Berrimah and St Philip’s College in Alice Springs at the two-day event on Casuarina campus.

Students learned about the weird and wonderful world of science, including ways to identify different types of bacteria and how airfoils lift objects off the ground in aerospace engineering.

Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Sandra Dunn said the event aimed to foster these talented students’ passion for science.

Professor Dunn said she hoped the event would also encourage students to continue studying in the Northern Territory once they graduated from high school.

“This excellent event has given CDU academics an opportunity to spark students’ interests in science and to show them the many different avenues a science degree can take them,” Professor Dunn said.
