Students and the community are invited to immerse themselves in Chinese art and culture when two celebrated Chinese painters begin a short residency at Charles Darwin University’s School of Creative Arts and Humanities this week.

Both artists are based at Anhui Normal University in the city of Wuhu, in Anhui Province, the Northern Territory’s sister Province. They are visiting Darwin as part of the ongoing partnership between Anhui Normal University and CDU through the Confucius Institute at Casuarina campus.

Professor Gao Fei is a modern style painter, while Professor Wu Dongsheng paints in the traditional Chinese style. CDU students and the general public are invited to attend lectures, painting demonstrations and to view an exhibition of their work on Tuesday, April 15.

Confucius Institute Director Professor Martin Jarvis said that CDU was delighted to welcome the two highly respected visual arts colleagues from Anhui Normal University.

“The focus of the Confucius Institute is on teaching Chinese language and culture,” Professor Jarvis said. “This is a wonderful opportunity for students and the public to learn more from such celebrated artists.”

The lecture and demonstrations will take place on Tuesday, April 15 from 9am in the drawing studio in building Orange 11, level 2, room 13. An exhibition of their work will be held in the Nan Giese Gallery from Tuesday, April 15 to Wednesday, April 16.
