CDU’s Northline Oval chosen for international cricket
Charles Darwin University’s Northline Oval at Palmerston campus has been selected as a venue for three matches in an international A Series cricket tournament in July.
Northline will play host to a match between South Africa A and the National Performance Squad on 20 July, the opening day of the quadrangular one-day series.
It will be the first time that the suburban venue has hosted an international sporting event.
Charles Darwin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Simon Maddocks welcomed the announcement, saying that CDU was proud to be associated with the exciting initiative.
“Northline Oval is a high quality, modern sporting facility and we are delighted that it has been selected as a venue for international cricket,” Professor Maddocks said.
“The recent upgrade and preparations for the A Series will go a long way to ensuring the ground will be used for sports all year round and well in to the future.”
Cricket Australia, the Northern Territory Government and NT Cricket yesterday said the six-week series would feature “A” teams from Australia, India, South Africa, and a National Performance Squad.
