Steven Moore farewells artworks

An exhibition by a prolific artist whose cartoons have filled the pages of some of Australia’s most prominent newspapers and magazines will open at Charles Darwin University next week (Monday, 18 November).

Cartoons and illustrations that capture some of the biggest moments in recent Australian history will hang in the Nan Giese Gallery in a show entitled “The Last Picture Show”.

CDU graphic design lecturer and cartoonist Steven Moore said the exhibition would give him the opportunity to farewell the collection of his pieces of the past 20 years. He will give the pieces away to members of the public on the proviso they make a donation to the UNICEF Syria Children Appeal.

“I am having one last look before saying goodbye to these drawings,” Mr Moore said.

“Many of them were done during the eight years I was illustrating for Phillip Adams’ weekly column in The Weekend Australian.

“People may recognise some familiar faces in my cartoons, including John Howard, Tony Abbott and a woman by the name of Pauline Hanson.”

Other leading mastheads bearing Mr Moore’s works include The Age, Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian Financial Review, Reader’s Digest Australia, Vogue Australia and Conde Nast Traveller.

Mr Moore said the show also would include some works he created when starting out as a professional artist after completing his university studies.

The exhibition is open to the public from 18 – 28 November in the Nan Giese Gallery, Building 10, Orange Precinct, CDU Casuarina campus.
