Confucius arrives in Darwin

A great Chinese philosopher and teacher is about to take his place in the gardens of Charles Darwin University’s Casuarina campus.
 
A bronze bust of Confucius will be gifted to the university by the Chinese Government during a ceremony tomorrow in recognition of the establishment of the CDU Confucius Institute in July last year.
 
CDU Vice-Chancellor Professor Barney Glover said CDU was honoured to receive the gift.
 
“It will not only enhance our beautiful Chinese Gardens, but it also symbolises the university’s close ties with our partners in China,” Professor Glover said.
 
“CDU is committed to developing its relationship with a number of universities in China, but especially with the Confucius Institute partner universities of Anhui Normal University and Hainan University.”
 
CDU is one of only 13 universities in Australia to have a Chinese Government-funded Confucius Institute, and is the direct result of the visit to Darwin by the President of China Xi Jingping in 2010.
 
The university recently hosted six professors of traditional Chinese music from Anhui Normal University, and will host other professors of accounting and tourism next month.
 
The Chinese Gardens have been a feature of the Casuarina campus for many years, with its construction made possible through the generosity of the Darwin’s Chinese communities and the Governor of Anhui Province in China.
 
The bust will be unveiled by Professor Glover at 3.30pm, tomorrow (Thursday 31 October 2013) in the Chinese Gardens, adjacent to Building 1, Yellow Precinct, Casuarina campus.
