Plenty to explore at CDU Casuarina Campus Open Day
Open Day at Casuarina campus will give prospective students plenty of opportunities to pick their pathways with information about higher education, short courses, and vocational training along with activities.
The Charles Darwin University (CDU) Casuarina Campus Open Day is on August 28 and is the first one held on campus since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The open day is a chance for visits to get a taste of the rewarding challenges and opportunities the university offers.
The College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) is hosting a Better Health Futures showcase that will give people an opportunity to see how many options people have when studying health.
The CHHS staff and students will also host an obstacle course so visitors can engage in a bit of physical activity to assess their fitness levels.
There will also be a drone display and simulator, people can learn potting skills to keep plants alive with CDU’s expert team of horticulturalists and even learn those kitchen cheats to make the perfect mocktail or wonton.
Vocational Education and Training (VET) Team Leader Culinary Arts and Hospitality Robert Schwerdt said food and hospitality were always popular attractions at the Open Day.
“This year, our bakers will have people decorating muffins, the hospitality crew will have people making mocktails, and in the cookery section, people will be making their wontons,” Mr Schwerdt said.
"“The butchery trainer will be demonstrating breaking down a leg of lamb for the public.”
Mr Schwerdt said there were plenty of opportunities for people to have careers in hospitality and cuisine.
“There is a massive skill shortage in this area right now, which affects other industries like tourism,” Mr Schwerdt said.
Along with the activities, visitors to the Open Day will get to learn more about CDU’s courses and facilities.
The day includes tours of the university’s edible garden and an aquaculture tour to visit the resident Barramundi.
The Darwin Symphony Orchestra is also performing for visits on the day.
The CDU Open Day at the Casuarina campus is on August 28, from 10am to 2pm.
