CDU has launched a new Careers Centre to connect students and alumni to employment opportunities and to offer resources to support them in their career success.

Charles Darwin University (CDU) has launched a new Careers Centre to aid Territory students and graduates to land their dream job and to better support them in their careers.

The Careers Centre offers online and in-person resources, programs and workshops that encourage students to imagine their future and have the confidence to fulfil their purpose through meaningful work.

The resources include an online portal where students and alumni can get tips about job searching, resume, cover letter, and interview preparation, as well as one-on-one consultations about career progressions and advice.

The Careers Centre also advertises job opportunities and connects students with internships and employment.

Career and industry consultants, an employability programs officer and a manager at the Centre link students to opportunities where they can test out different career paths, practise their skills and build self-confidence along their career journey.

CDU Vice-Chancellor Professor Scott Bowman said the Careers Centre provided a useful platform for students to access resources to achieve career success.

“CDU boasts one of the highest employment rates among our graduates in Australia. This is achieved through the tireless support from our dedicated teaching and professional staff,” Professor Bowman said.

“We’re focused on providing the pathways to employability for our students to connect them to the right people and the job opportunities available to them. The Careers Centre is a fantastic initiative for our students, which is about helping them gain the confidence to find a job that’s right for them.”

The launch saw some current CDU students share their experiences about receiving assistance from the Careers Centre team and landing their dream jobs.

CDU Master of Accounting Heather Wang said the resume and interview preparation had boosted her confidence and chance in getting internships.

“When applying for my last role, the whole of the Careers Centre was supporting me with resume and cover letter writing and interview preparation. It really is a fantastic resource for students,” Ms Wang said.

“Going to university and getting a degree is not the ultimate goal. The goal is to use University as a platform to build your career and a new life for yourself.”

The Careers Centre is located at the CDU Casuarina campus and is open to all students and alumni.

CDU Director of Student Engagement Sarah Fletcher said the new services would engage with students and improve their employment outcomes locally.

“One of the reasons we know that the students come to university is because they are looking for jobs and looking to improve their opportunities,” Ms Fletcher said.

“Students are more motivated to stay and be retained if they can see the link between what they are learning with their career aspirations.”
