Join Delyna Baxter as she discusses the history of Indigenous Pastoralism in Australia in our next People. Policy. Place webinar.

During an extensive oral history project (2011-2013), Delyna gathered the lived experiences of pastoral workers across Northern Australia, using storytelling to act as a conduit for truth telling of life in the industry.

Key themes to be explored in the talk relate to Indigenous peoples’ identities and the need for cultural transmission of knowledge. The oral histories provide rich insights into how identities are forged, maintained and managed through a changing historical landscape in Australia and also contribute to an understanding of the contributors to well-being for these older past pastoral workers, as well as modern Aboriginal society.
