Students get a taste for university at CDU Open Day

Despite lockdown impacting the Northern Territory this week, this year’s Charles Darwin University (CDU) Open Day will go ahead as planned, giving Territorians a taste for university life.

The free annual event, on Sunday, August 29 at CDU Stadium Marrara, is a one-stop shop for Territorians who want to explore higher education and vocational training study options.

The day is a celebration of learning and features innovation and entertainment with a wide range of demonstrations, displays, workshops and talks.

CDU Manager of Student Recruitment and Events Marissa Briston said CDU would continue to offer options for further education and career pathways for Territorians.

“We understand that starting university can be intimidating, that’s why Open Day is a great way to help local students and their families gain a better understanding of what CDU is and the variety of courses we have on offer for all levels of education,” Ms Briston said.

“We can offer a lot of support for school leavers or adults who would like to go back to school, as there are pathways to encourage more Territorians to further their studies and build our local workforce.”

A variety of talks are designed to assist students to determine what course is suitable for them, as well as engaging academic talks and information about scholarships.

Innovation is also high on the agenda and visitors can experience augmented reality with robots, a virtual reality look at human anatomy, the Royal Flying Doctor Service and CareFlight’s aeromedical simulator and a welding and civil construction simulator.

Also featured will be aquaponics, Asian cookery, paramedicine, non-invasive brain stimulation, drones, weightlifting techniques, mocktails, research equipment, coordination tests, a free tax clinic and much more.

CDU teaching and student support staff will also be on hand to share information about the University’s hundreds of short courses, higher education degrees and vocational training qualifications. They can answer questions spanning course structure and fees, career outcomes and pathways to study.

Student ambassadors are happy to talk about their experiences studying at CDU who are gearing up to start or continue their careers. Open Day will run from 10am to 2pm this Sunday, August 29 at CDU Stadium, Marrara.
