O-Week begins at CDU ahead of students back for Semester 1

Students from across the Territory will join in for Orientation Week this week at Charles Darwin University (CDU) before Semester 1 kicks off on March 7.
Students from across the Territory will join in for Orientation Week this week at Charles Darwin University (CDU) before Semester 1 kicks off on March 7.

Orientation Week is kicking off this week across the Territory at Charles Darwin University (CDU) with hundreds of students expected to join a variety of virtual and on-campus activities for Semester One.

O-Week activities will begin from February 28 to March 4, with students having plenty of opportunities to make connections with potential peers along their academic journey.

There are more than 3,500 domestic students studying on campus and living in the Territory who are currently studying with CDU with more than 2,000 international students enrolled with the university.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Students and VET, Sam Jacob said that Orientation Week is an important part of any student’s calendar and university journey.

“Orientation Week introduces students to campus life, provides an opportunity to meet other students and answer the many questions they may have,” Ms Jacob said.

“The activities will help students get the most out of their student life and will help prepare them for study and the year ahead.”

“After a challenging year with COVID-19 impacting border closures internationally and making studying in person challenging for our interstate students, we’re thrilled that students can join us in person for Semester One and their university experience ahead.”

Students attending Orientation Week will have access to ‘how to’ sessions and webinars, which explain the fundamentals of using the library, careers and employability, university life to students, as well as meet and greets with course lecturers.

There will also be specific information sessions for international students about adjusting to life in Australia called ‘Living and thriving in Australia’ and First Nations students will be supported with an introduction to services, support and networking.

The Student Central team will also be on hand to answer any questions in virtual orientation sessions.

CDU O-Week Co-ordinator Nina Iannello, said that there will be plenty on offer for students across the Territory during Orientation Week.

“For those students who want to get involved on a more social level, the calendar is packed with club carnival online activities such as live trivia, a stream watch party, yoga and mindfulness activities,” Mrs Iannello said.

The week will conclude with an Icebreaker Live Event on Friday, March 4 where students will get to interact with their peers and meet CDU’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Scott Bowman.

Mix 104.1 Territory FM will be on hand providing tunes and merchandise with free food, Curled ice-cream and games on offer.

New students can go to cdu.edu.au/orientation  for both a timetable of events, registration and more information.
