Whether of the creative, scholarly or theatrical persuasion, Territory writers are being encouraged to put forward submissions for a prestigious writing award.

Entries for the 2014 Northern Territory Literary Awards close this month (28 February) in six categories: short stories, essays, performance scripts, poetry, and creative pieces by young writers.

An initiative of the Northern Territory Library, the awards are supported by Charles Darwin University through the sponsorship of the CDU Travel Short Story Award and the CDU Essay Award.

The CDU Travel Short Story Award will recognise the best short story about travel or travelling, with a $500 cash prize and NT Writers’ Centre membership and master class awarded to the strongest entry.

A thoughtful and innovative academic exploration of a topic relating to the NT submitted in the CDU Essay Award will attract a $1000 cash prize and NT Writers’ Centre membership and master class.

The awards are a platform for emerging authors, journalists, playwrights, poets and essayists to gain public recognition and access to development opportunities.

Entries for the 2014 NT Literary Awards close 28 February 2014. Winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Northern Territory Library, Parliament House on 29 May 2014.
