Something fishy about CDU Open Day

There’s something fishy about the interactive activities set for this year’s Charles Darwin University Open Day on August 25.

The Casuarina campus aquaculture team is inviting members of the public to visit their facilities and feed the university’s resident Barramundi, some of which are close to one metre long.

The program offers plenty of opportunities to get hands-on, including dispensing imitation medicines in the mock pharmacy and creating art in printmaking workshops.

If biology is more your thing, check out an iconic Northern Territory reptile during crocodile dissections.

Culinary connoisseurs can channel the inner chef at hospitality demonstrations, which include cooking, baking and mocktail shaking.

Acting Team Leader Commercial Cookery and Baking Robert Schwerdt said members of the public were welcome to join in muffin decorating, and could enjoy a live laksa cooking demonstration from the university’s award-winning chef lecturers.

“Our chefs will also be on hand to explain how to make crepes, and the audience is welcome to sample everything along the way,” Mr Schwerdt said.

Join a West-African drumming workshop with Mbackeh and enjoy his wild dancing, powerful singing and vibrant Afro-Manding rhythms. For a more serene foray into world music, experience the sounds of Indonesia by learning how to play traditional instruments.
