O-Week to kick-start academic year
New and returning students will converge on Charles Darwin University campuses and study centres across the country this week as part of Orientation 2014.
Hundreds are expected to attend a range of orientation activities on offer at CDU, centres and campuses throughout the Northern Territory and in Sydney and Melbourne.
In Darwin, the five-day academic and social program will allow students to become familiar with the campus, their courses and have an opportunity to meet and interact with current and new students.
Students can attend a free breakfast and an official welcome on Tuesday, 25 February followed by a student panel, where new students can hear first-hand from current students about what they can expect from studying at CDU.
The packed program will include an exhibition with more than 40 organisations promoting their products and services to students with lots of free giveaways. Students who take part in the Orientation Explorer Game will be in the running for an Ultimate Study Pack including an Apple MacBook Pro.
Those interested in studying with the Australian Centre for Indigenous Knowledges and Education will be able to attend the Indigenous Knowledges, Learning and Engagement Showcase to explore the facilities and enjoy a live performance of traditional dance.
Social activities will include a free movie night, Welcome Party @ Pirates Bar, and concert and BBQ at International House Darwin.
Meanwhile in Alice Springs, the Higher Education theatrette will be the focal point of a three-hour program from 4pm on 25 February tailored to Central Australian-based students.
Director of Central Australia Paul Fitzsimons will deliver an overview of the university before introducing students to speakers from the Schools of Business, Education, Health and Environmental and Life Sciences.
With more than 24,000 students expected to study in 2014, CDU continues to grow from strength to strength and offers a fresh approach to training, education, research and knowledge application. This year will also mark 25 years of university education in the Northern Territory and is a milestone for Charles Darwin University.
